Cookie Policy

Effective date: 16 October 2026

This policy describes cookies on markway.io, run by Daniel Wirtz, trading as Markway (KvK 81308388, Johannes Uitenbogaertstraat 53, 3553 VN Utrecht, the Netherlands, support@markway.io).

Personal data more broadly is described in the Privacy Policy.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a site stores on your device. Dutch telecoms law (Telecommunicatiewet) requires consent for cookies that are not strictly necessary. A cookie that is required to provide a service you asked for, such as staying signed in, does not need that consent.

Cookies we set

Sign-in session. If you create an account or sign in on the website, Better Auth sets an httpOnly session cookie, normally named better-auth.session_token (on HTTPS the browser may show it as __Secure-better-auth.session_token). It keeps you signed in. We do not use it for advertising. It lasts about seven days, or until you sign out. The Markway extension does not use this cookie. The extension stores a bearer token in extension storage instead.

Google sign-in. If you choose Google, a short-lived cookie may be set while the sign-in redirect finishes. It is part of completing the login you started.

We do not set advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, and we do not set _ga cookies.

Analytics without cookies

The website loads PostHog in cookieless mode. It records page views and clicks and does not set a PostHog cookie or use session replay. We do not use a cookie banner. PostHog still receives the request, including the IP address. That processing is described in the Privacy Policy, and you can object by emailing us.

The extension does not set browser cookies. If product analytics are on, it stores a random id in extension storage and sends events to PostHog. Those events include the page domain only, not the full address, path, or query. If the extension cannot read that setting, it sends nothing. That switch is in the extension's settings, under "Anonymized Tracking".

How to control cookies

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie means the website will not keep you signed in. The extension will still work for highlighting; sign-in and Pro features on the website need the session cookie until the extension has received its token.

You can also sign out, which ends the session.

Changes

We will post changes on this page and change the date at the top. If we start setting non-essential cookies, we will ask for consent first.
